The nikah ceremony can take place in Satun or Songkhla in Southern Thailand.
Your passport is required. Malaysians must also bring along your NRIC.
The following documents are required, where applicable:
After marriage, go to
The Central Islamic Committee of Thailand,
45 Moo 3 Klongkao Road,
Klongsib Sub-District, Nongchock District,
Bangkok 10530, Thailand.
The marriage certificate that is issued by the various Islamic Committee offices, in Songkhla, Satun or other provinces, are not recognized by the Thailand Government without a certification letter from the Central Islamic Committee of Thailand (CICOT) in Bangkok.
Bring your marriage certificate to CICOT, together with a copy of your passports (main page and the page with the Thai immigration entry stamp) and your passport-sized photographs.
As you enter the CICOT building, take the stairs one floor up, then go through the door on the left. Tell the person at the counter that you wish to legalize your marriage certificate.
CICOT will issue the letter in less than one hour, insha Allah. The fee is 500 Baht.
In order to get the legalization on the same day, the documents must be submitted to the Legalization office before 9:30 am. The documents to be submitted are a copy of your passport as well as the letter from CICOT.
The legalized documents will be ready for collection at 2:30pm. Be sure to be there at 2:30pm because they will call out the names of those whose documents are ready for collection.
On the day after getting the letter from CICOT, go early to the Legalization Office, to arrive before 7:45am. Expect to see many people there.
From the Ground Floor (First Floor), take the escalator to the Second Floor, then take the stairs to the left of the escalator to go to the top floor. As you reach the top of the stair case, turn left and fill up one of the forms that have been placed there. After that, go to the row of blue chairs in front of the (closed) counters. Find empty chairs in the front row or near the front row. They will usually call those sitting in front first.
When you get to the counter, ask for the Express service. This is the service that gives you the documents back on the same day. The cost is 400 Baht.
The address of the Legalization Office is
Legalization Division,
3rd Floor, Department of Consular Affairs,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
123 Chaeng Watthana Road,
Bangkok 10210
You may need to have the marriage certificate issued by CICOT authenticated by your own country's embassy in Bangkok after authentication by the Thailand Legalization Department. Please check with your embassy in Bangkok.
Nongchock District, where CICOT and the Thailand National Mosque are located, lies outside of Bangkok. Travel time from the centre of Bangkok will take a little over an hour. Most taxi drivers have difficulty finding this place.
You could ask the concierge of the hotel where you are staying in Bangkok to get you a taxi driver who is familiar with Nongchock. Otherwise, you could contact the following taxi drivers:
They have been taking passengers to CICOT and the Legalization Office quite regularly. They can also take you sight-seeing or to visit Bangkok's attractions.
You can stay in any hotel in Bangkok. All of them are quite far from Nongchock but you may want to stay closer to the Legalization Office so that you can reach the Office early.
If you are looking for a hotal that serves halal food, then the best in Bangkok is Al Meroz Hotel.
